Who?
The group Stop Racial Profiling Basel is an association of individuals who are affected by systematic selection and racist identity checks in different ways. We got together to stand up against Racial Profiling. The group exists since 2016. It is in contact with the Alliance against Racial Profiling (www.stop-racial- profiling.ch) and part of a growing movement connected all over the country.

What?
At the train station, along the Rhine, close to the border or in the shopping centre: in Basel there are many different places and situations in which we experience and witness the phenomenon, that skin color, religious symbols or other characteristics that make a person seem “foreign” are apparently reason enough to be controlled – by police, border control or by private security services. But Racial Profiling contradicts the principle of non-discrimination within the constitutional and international law.

How?
The group has the aim to raise awareness around the subject of Racial Profiling and to fight racist practices of authorities. So we want to point out police practice and draw attention to legal processes connected to Racial Profiling so that looking away is no longer an option. And we ask affected people to share their experiences and to defend themselves. We also encourage witnesses to observe, report and intervene. Last but not least, we want to scandalize racist convictions behind these practices and to bring further the needed debate.

You?
To raise awareness of racial practices by authorities we ask you to report your experiences. Were you a victim of Racial Profiling or did you witness a racist police control? Please mention where and when the control did happen, how many police officers or securities were involved and describe the scene as detailed as possible. You can use any language!
